Real Estate Development

On the development side, the members of our  practice group are counsel to some of the largest commercial real estate developers in Michigan.  Our clients include not only numerous major real estate developers and contractors, but also owners and managers of shopping centers, apartment complexes, office buildings, restaurant chains, golf courses with residential developments and other commercial properties.  We counsel these clients on land acquisitions, the formation of real estate ventures, site development, zoning, construction contracts, condemnations, environmental matters, financing, sale transactions and lease transactions (including land leases, sale/leaseback agreements and synthetic leases).  We assist them in every step of the development process, including land assemblages (sometimes involving the use of the local municipality’s eminent domain powers), negotiating operating agreements and working out site development agreements with local governmental bodies.

Real Estate Litigation

We also have a strong real estate litigation practice with the resources to pursue these matters through the court system. Our real estate litigation lawyers have handled complex judicial mortgage foreclosures, real estate tax assessment trials, real estate aspects of bankruptcy proceedings, and construction defect disputes.
