Andrew M. Hopko joined BSD&D in 2019, coming from another major law firm.
Andrew has practiced in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, special needs planning, elder law, and probate litigation. His practice ranges from helping clients identify and create estate plans tailored to their specific needs to post-death administration of trusts and estates. He has extensive experience in guardianship and conservatorship proceedings and has been appointed frequently as Guardian Ad Litem by area probate courts to advise the court on a wide range of probate issues. He advises individuals with special needs and their families on how to obtain eligibility for a variety of federal and state government programs benefiting special needs individuals, as well as developing trusts and other mechanisms to provide financial support for his special needs clients. As part of his elder law practice, he works extensively with clients to preserve their assets while establishing eligibility for Medicaid and other government programs to help with the costs of long-term care. As a probate litigator, he handles a wide range of cases including financial exploitation and undue influence of vulnerable adults, removal and surcharge of trustees and other fiduciaries, trust and will contests, and modification of irrevocable trust agreements.
